Stretch Mark Creams
Stretch Mark Treatments: Reviews
There are hundreds of stretch mark creams on the market and as you might suspect, not all the sales blurb, and not all the reviews, are objective or unbiased.
That's why we've looked into stretch mark creams and other solutions in detail and also why we ask you, our readers, to send in your own reviews (see form below) of the ones you've used and what your views of them are. Do you get what you pay for - or is there an inexpensive stretch mark product that works just as well as the expensive ones? Should your ethnic origin influence which products are best for you? These are the kinds of questions that we want the answers to. Every pregnant woman wants to prevent stretch marks - and she needs a product THAT REALLY WORKS! She wants one that suits both her skin type and her pocket. And she also wants to know whether it's possible to remove stretch marks once she's got them. So let's look at that question first: Can You Get Rid of Stretch Marks? The truthful answer is, probably not 100%, unless you resort to stretch mark surgery or laser treatment, and even then the results may not be completely effective for all women. People with darker skins usually have fewer problems from stretch marks than those with fair or light skins. The two key factors in deciding whether a cream or any other method can remove stretch marks are: a) the effectiveness of the active ingredients and b) the way in which those ingredients are delivered to the deeper layers of the skin. Our skin has three layers: the outer layer or epidermis, the middle layer or dermis, and the deepest layer, which is known as the subcutaneous layer. Stretch marks (also known as striae distensae or stria atrophica) occur in the middle layer, the dermis, which is naturally stretchy. In darker skin types, this layer has more resilience than in lighter types. For those with Nordic and Caucasian blood especially, prevention is better than cure and there is evidence that massaging proven effective creams and oils into your skin from the very start of pregnancy is a good idea. If you leave it until later, it's a lot more difficult to repair the damage once the skin has stretched...but not impossible. They do fade over time but can be more obvious if you are out in the sun and the skin is beginning to tan. There is another way, besides creams, that is claimed to remove even old stretch marks, though I personally haven't tried it. The reports so far are good, though, so you may want to find out more.
How to Choose the Right Stretch Mark ProductTearing and stretching of the skin is responsible for the marks that most of us want to get rid of. Some of the best ingredients in stretch mark creams include collagen, elastin and vitamin E and some of the best carriers, that transport them to the dermis, are emu oil and liposomes. The ingredients listed first on a product are the ones to look for, and something to avoid is a product with a high water content. If water is high on the ingredients list, you're unlikely to find the cream very effective.
