Second Trimester

Second Trimester

The second trimester is probably the most enjoyable of pregnancy. You will become more energetic and will feel your baby move for the first time. The nausea and tiredness of the early weeks usually eases by this stage and you start to get a noticeable bump.

You will feel full of life in this trimester. However you may still have a few problems since the relaxation of the digestive system can cause indigestion and constipation. Your breasts may also feel very sore.

Your weight gain should be steady. You should gain about 11.5kg by the time your baby is due to be born. Your doctor or midwife will raise concerns with you if they think you are gaining too much or not enough weight. Make sure you have a good diet. A poor diet can cause your baby to have a low birth weight. Excessive weight gain at this stage can cause varicose veins.

Common complaints during this trimester include heartburn, indigestion, constipation, and heavier vaginal discharge, bleeding gums and poor short term memory.
