Exercise During Pregnancy

If you are normally active there is no reason why you still can’t exercise during pregnancy. Exercise can actually help you increase your fitness and stamina and help you to cope with the labour and birth.

To be safe exercising during pregnancy you need to listen to your body more carefully than you would normally and stop when it tells you to. It will probably not be until the very final stages of your pregnancy that you feel too uncomfortable to exercise and even then, gentle stretching and relaxation will help to keep you supple and calm.

Pregnancy doesn't need to be an endless struggle. You don't need to feel fat, unnatractive or uncomfortable. In fact, pregnancy is a time for glowing with health and looking postively beautiful with the new life you're carrying. The right kind of exercise during pregnancy can only help this to happen. Keeping to the right pregnancy weight so that you regain your pre-pregnancy figure rapidly is perfectly possible.

There are special exercises that you can do during pregnancy such as those vital pelvic floor exercises that you've no doubt heard about? Why are they so important? Well, the weight of your baby places a great strain on the muscles of your pelvic floor and can weaken them quite a lot. It's a really good idea to strengthen these muscles during your pregnancy to prevent tearing in labour and also after the birth to aid recovery. It can also prevent the more embarrassing problem of urine leakage when you cough or have left it a bit late to go to the bathroom. Yes, it can happen to young women too! Pregnancy incontinence is not uncommon and it can continue to affect you after the birth too. But do your pelvic floor exercises as it shows in the video below and you'll be OK!
